Consciousness - Episode 18
It should be pretty clear that the notion of consciousness is related in some rather
special way to the arrow of time.
When we consider not so much what consciousness is with what consciousness does
the issue of consciousness become pretty clear. Consciousness is a process that
distinguishes what is real and what is not. This is where it immediately gets difficult
and why generally the topic is avoided except in medical practice - because the
idea of a process implies a receptor and a reception, which in fact you may view
from various angles, which kind of leads into the notion of religion.
It does seem a little curious that from the stand point of education and science
education the topic seems to be avoided in what appears to me to be a bit dramatic. This
leads me to conclude that it is mostly avoided to separate religion from science
as if either science or religion would become corrupted.
So it seems like some people like to suggest that God is non-scientific or that science
emphatically demonstrates that God can not exist. And then the issue arises about
how important is the idea of God to religion in general? Perhaps it is the issue of
the " dogmatic " nature which certainly tinges much of what we consider to be
religious thought and conversation.
But, that does seem a bit weird. Beyond that --- the issue of consciousness is
certainly different in many ways from the topic of God, in my opinion. But the
idea of consciousness seems necessary in many ways to have a substantial, and
robust understanding as relates to biology, and biological systems.
Yes and with that and $2.00 you can possibly get a cup of coffee.
